The South China Sea divides Malaysia, splitting the country into two distinct halves -- one part lies south of Thailand, the other north of Borneo. Cruises to Malaysia often call at Kuala Lumpur, the country's capital and an industrious, cosmopolitan city dominated by skyscrapers. Shopping is a popular pursuit here, and also in the resort town of Kuantan and the port city of Terengganu, famous for knitted handicrafts. After the loss of several species of endangered turtle, Malaysia created the Ma'Daerah Turtle Sanctuary, a popular spot for tourists in Kemaman. Conservation is also a priority in the city of Sandakan, where an orangutan sanctuary preserves one of the last few colonies of these forest apes.
- Malaysia is featured on cruises in Asia, which are offered throughout the year.
